A night at the symphony with David Garrett

Have you heard of David Garrett? Neither had I! But I entered a recent contest from Global Morning TV because it involved 2 tickets to a show at Roy Thomson Hall which I thought would be a fun night out. Imagine my surprise when I realized they were front row seats!

Furthermore, it wasn’t your typical classical symphony. David is a hip, crossover violinist who may play Beethoven but will weave in Nirvana, Eminem and Michael Jackson. His ripped jeans and leather jacket were in contrast to the traditional, elegant black apparel of Toronto Symphony Orchestra members.

He may not be a household name in Canada, yet he was all the rage in Mexico City playing at huge venues a few days prior to arriving in Toronto and is embarking on a European tour later this year.

If you’re looking to introduce a younger person to classical music, David Garrett is your man! I’ll be following to see how his career continues to progress.

Here’s a short Twitter video from my awesome seats!
