I was fortunate enough to attend Jillian Michaels last show on her Maximize Your Life tour in Toronto!
Having never watched an episode of The Biggest Loser, I had no idea what she was going to talk about for 2+ hours but the time flew by!
Jillian first focused on diet and gave numerous tips. For instance, when reading a product label, the top 3 ingredients are most important (and be wary that there are 56 names for sugar!) Also, if you can’t pronounce it don’t eat it! It’s probably not real food.
I appreciated her perspective as most families cannot afford to buy exclusively organic. Here’s what I took to heart: if there’s only one food you can buy which is organic, choose meat! She then displayed pictures of cows and fish which had been fed hormones in order to speed up their growth process for human consumption.
Personally, I haven’t eaten meat in 5 months after watching Samsara and being appalled at the treatment of animals (yes, my tickets were free due to a contest win). However, after hearing Jillian, if and when I choose to eat meat again it will certainly be organic.
Jillian also presented some useful lists for choosing foods which I’ve posted below. “Clean Foods” have thicker skin which is why it isn’t necessary to buy organic in these categories.
Jillian next focused on exercise and reiterated what I had heard a couple days prior; work out at 85% of your maximum heart rate.
You know that outer/inner thigh machine at the gym? Yes, that’s completely useless. Seated leg extensions are also pointless.
Her site: http://www.jillianmichaels.com/fit/the-regimen has a number of tips. My friend actually completed the 30 Day Shred and had rave reviews!
Finally, Jillian focused on self development. Often, we can be our own worst enemies. Instead of asking why me? Why not you? We are all equally deserving. Destiny is a choice, not a chance. Everyone has skills that are unique to us so define a specific purpose.
Jillian suggested we ask ourselves 3 questions if we are at a crossroads and I’ll share them with you to ponder your own life decisions:
What if you fail?
What if you do nothing?
What if you succeed?
I came away from this event feeling informed and inspired. I would definitely recommend attending a future tour show!
