World MasterCard Fashion Week: where the beautiful people of Toronto come together to see the latest designs from some of Canada’s top designers. Attending this event is always one of my highlights of the year!

I saw my first studio show watching Golnaz Ashtiani’s latest ASHTIANI collection. Using a variety of materials including velvet, lace, mohair and silk, geometric-inspired modernism was on display. Only founded in 2011, I’m curious to see how Golnaz’s vision continues to evolve.

Next up was KORHANI! I knew going in that rugs would be turned into fashionable pieces but I was so impressed at how home decor could be used in such a unique way! Different themes were presented including a Tim Burton-esque gothic approach to peacock headpieces and 70’s disco. The complimentary champagne cocktail afterwards was also delightful!

After KORHANI’s extravagance, Mackage’s outerwear seemed very ordinary. However, the jackets were practical and stylish. Even my friend commented that she would wear many of the items.

Finally, Joe Fresh closed out the day! Its recent expansion into J.C. Penney stores has been making headlines and it continues to be a popular brand in Canada. With an affordable chic target, Joe Fresh has continued to grow its product line since launching in 2006. The Fall/Winter collection on display was predominately white and black. Personally, I use the basic pieces in Joe Fresh to complement designer clothes that I own. The ease of mixing and matching, with low price points, is definitely helpful to the average consumer. I’ll be interested to see how successful it is in the United States.
