World MasterCard Fashion Week

Fashion Week in Toronto is always an exciting event and I was thrilled to see what trends are ahead in Spring/Summer 2013! After viewing three shows, it’s clear what everyone will be wearing next year….peplum!

Mélissa Nepton’s show featured casual luxury with her silk designs. However, I was most excited to see what Sunny Fong had in store for his VAWK/VAWKKIN collections. After modeling for him in last season’s Fashion Week, I am a huge fan! His dresses, which can be found in The Room at The Bay, never disappoint and all of his VAWKKIN clothes are appropriate for the workplace. Suzanne Rogers, Jeanne Beker and Stacey McKenzie were just a few of the notable Canadians that sat front row.

Already established in the United States, Express was the final show of WMCFW. Jessica Stam, a Canadian super model, walked the runway! Peplum variations were bountiful and there were several cheers whenever the male models showcased fitted suits. Express has an affordable price point and with a new store opening soon at Eaton Centre, I am definitely adding it to my list of go-to shopping destinations!

Each Fashion Week I’ve attended has been progressively better. However, after my runway debut in March, I wondered how this could compare? An invite to the closing after party is the answer! With free drinks, desserts, clothes from Express and a performance by Dragonette; it was the perfect ending to the week!

Aryka’s Advice: The best probability of winning tickets to shows this time around were through the designers themselves. Mélissa Nepton, VAWK and Express all featured giveaways on their Twitter pages.
